Computer Applications - Final Project

Note: You are responsible for everything on this page. Due Date: May 9, 2006

 

Select a corporation that interests you. It must be a company that has stock traded on the NYSE (New York Stock Exchange) or NASDAQ. Click here to look up the stock symbol of your corporation.

 

Gather information about the company from the Internet or by calling them and asking for marketing materials.

 

The report you deliver on the due date must be a complete web document with consistent fonts and themes on every page. All the web pages should be contained in one folder on your H: drive called Final Exam.

 

Remember, begin with the five applications we learned this year, and then save as web pages in that same folder. You should end up with six web pages as follows:

Welcome Page 

This is a home page that includes the logo, brief introduction paragraph and hyperlinks to all other sections of the project (use Internet B skills). Remember, all other pages should link back to this one.

 

Narrative - Word

Use a professional font, 1.5 spaced, font size 12 point. You may use subheadings. Organize your essay into the following sections:

  • Introduction
  • Explain the nature of the business, what product or service do they sell?
  • Location, History: Where is the company located? How and when did it start?
  • Who is their target market? Describe their customer: teenagers? Parents? Senior citizens? Rich people? Home owners?
  • Geographic business: Does the company do business locally? Internationally? Only on the Internet?

The 600 words include the above description, any introductory text on the home page and descriptive sentences on the Excel and Access parts.

 

Finance - Excel

Pretend you are the Vice President of Finance and you must prepare reports for the president. The following report should have proper titles, formulas, formatting, etc. Be thorough.

Stock Report

  • Keep track of the companys stock for two weeks: see Yahoo's Finance Page
  • Create a spreadsheet to track the open, high, low and closing stock price every day (use real numbers)
  • Open, high, low and close in rows. Dates in columns
  • Create a line chart to go with the stock history.

Both the spreadsheet and the chart should be converted to a web page. Add a descriptive paragraph before or after the chart.

 

Operations - Access

Imagine you are the Operations Manager for this company. Think about the suppliers of your company (if it is a print shop, then your must get paper from a paper company, printing machines must be repaired periodically by a special mechanic, if it is a restaurant, your suppliers are food distributors, plate and cup suppliers, etc.)

Create a database with a table as follows:

  • Create a table of 15 suppliers.
  • Include names, addresses, city, state, zip, account number, account balance, and supplier type, such as Utilities, Products, Raw Materials, Supplies, Technology   
  • Design a report grouped by Supplier type and sorted by Name 

Both reports should be converted to HTML documents and included in the final product. Add descriptive sentences to these documents.

 

Marketing - Publisher

Pretend you are the Marketing/Advertising Director

  • Design a sample brochure or flyer for the company
  • The publication can be just a flyer you would distribute on the street or a promotion of a Sale, perhaps a new product is coming out on the market, be creative
  • Include a hyperlink back

Human Resources - PowerPoint

Pretend you are the Human Resources Director

  • Make a presentation to describe the company to a group of new employees
  • Use the information gathered in the other sections above
  • Create a slide show (six slides, include attractive clip art, (no animation or sound needed)
